Visas are issued on arrival, our government has implemented a streamlined visa process to ensure your smooth entry into our country. Upon your arrival at Adan Adde International Airport, Mogadishu, Somalia, you will have the privilege of obtaining your visas on arrival.Should any participant encounter any difficulties during the visa application process or need further guidance, please do not hesitate to contact the focal points provided in this information note.

In September, Mogadishu, Somalia experiences warm temperatures with average highs ranging from 28°C to 31°C, occasional showers as the wet season comes to an end, high humidity levels around 70-80%, moderate northeast monsoon winds providing some relief, and ample sunshine with 8-10 hours of sunshine per day.

Electricity

Mogadishu mainly operates a three-square plug. Power is approximately 240V supply voltage and 50Hz. The socket type is as shown below:

Health

Primary health care facilities are available throughout the country. To access health services in Somalia, non-citizens will be required to pay on cash and internal bank cards and also Visa or Mastercards. Private hospitals and medical practitioners are also available.

Drinking Water

It is generally advised to drink bottled water which is readily available in most shops and supermarkets. Drinking water will also be availed in the event venue.

Call Codes & Cards

The country code for Somalia is +252 if you are calling form outside Somalia. Prepaid sim cards for mobile phones can be bought in telecommunication companies offices at the airport. Hormuud, Somtel, and Somnet are the main telephone service providers whose SIM cards are easily accessible and readily available in most of the areas.

There are several caterers within the airport compound contracted to provide food and beverages for breakfast, lunches as well as snacks during coffee breaks for staff and visiting delegates. In addition, there are several restaurants within walking distance from the Halane compound (listed here in the order of proximity from the main gate):

Event Venue

Participants from Mogadishu will have to make their own transportation arrangements to the meeting venue. Participants can use uber or taxi services where applicable and can also inquire from their respective hotels if transport services to and from the Afisiyoone can be availed.

Local currency & banks

The local currency in Somalia is the Somali Shillings, and mobile money transfer serves as the primary mode of financial transactions, complemented by banks that support international credit, MasterCard, and Visa cards; these banks operate from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm in accordance with Mogadishu time, Saturday through Thursday. Note: All banks are located in the city of Mogadishu and are widely available. You can get cash at the airport (currency exchange and ATMs).
